Turtles don’t like croissants.
Not even the really nice flaky ones from Le Gourmand…
And even though I’m sure they must know deep down that it will result in death by squashing, they will still hurl themselves across the road to get to the shady side of the street on hot days in June…
So next time you see one crossing the street on your way round Caledon, Ontario, I’d recommend you stop abruptly, make a U-turn (like we did), and go back to help it across faster…
But I’d recommend you leave the croissant for yourself… as they’d really much rather grape or fig leaves, or endive, chickweed, dandelion, lettuce (of both the green and red variety), turnip greens, collards, or maybe even some nice fruit, squashed up into small and manageable chunks…

I once saved a big snapper on a road near Hillsburg…he came really close to getting hit, and while you can pick up and carry a painted turtle…not so much a snapping one. So I got a big stick…he bit on it and would not let go so I was able to drag him across the rest of the way before he let go…
HA!
i love that photo of your little toes and the turtle.
and i bet french turtles like croissant.
Amazing. Someone told me the night of our strawberry picking that you’re supposed to pick up a turtle like a hamburger otherwise you could hurt it. You should make a note in your blog somewhere about that! Turtle burger procedures.
I know this is off-topic, but I LOVE your dress. Where did you get it?
Teehee… I got it at Winner’s! But that was last summer… It’s definitely one of my favourites.
